I was involved in concept inspiration, logistical support, and advice in the film Congo Calling.
Congo Calling is a documentary about research and development aid in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, following three stories of Congolese-European relationships, directed by Stephan Hilpert.
One of the three stories is about our own research projects with Marakuja in the DRC, whereas the inclusion of this story was not originally intended but presented interesting parallels with the struggles faced by Congolese and European aid workers.
The film won the Audience Prize to the best Documentary at the Max Ophuls Film Festival in January 2019, where it was shown at its world’s premiere, and was subsequently nominated for best German-Produced Documentary Award in the same year.
